Our Welcome

Winter Park's most welcoming heritage-inspired fitness and wellness practice.

Highland & Home began with a simple conviction: people get stronger where they feel they belong. We built a studio that borrows the discipline of highland strength traditions and pairs it with the warmth of a family kitchen — cast-iron kettlebells, wool-toned light, coaches who remember your knee surgery and your daughter's soccer schedule.

Whether you train in our Lake Howell Lane studio, in your living room, or a bit of both, you get programming that respects your history and prepares you for the next thirty years of movement.

Common Questions

Before you join the circle.

You choose the split — most members do two studio sessions and two home sessions each week. Your home days use the same programming, scaled to whatever you own: a pair of dumbbells, a band, or nothing at all. Every movement has a filmed demo from your own coach.

Yes. Classes cap at twelve so your coach can scale each movement in the moment. Roughly half of every class is in their first year of training, and we run a dedicated Foundations block on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Home Hearth suits members who mostly train at home and want structure plus a couple of classes. Highland Ridge fits people who want the full hybrid rhythm with monthly one-to-one coaching. Summit Clan is for members who want weekly private coaching, recovery, and nutrition all handled.

You can pause for up to eight weeks a year for travel, surgery, or a busy season at work. Just tell your coach, and we will hold your spot in your regular class times.

Often. Several of our coaches hold corrective-exercise and post-rehabilitation credentials, and we coordinate directly with physical therapists across Winter Park and Maitland when you give us permission.

Our Story

Two pillars: highland strength, hearthside warmth.

Highland & Home was founded in 2013 by two coaches who kept noticing the same thing — the members who lasted were not the most athletic ones, they were the ones who felt at home. So we built a practice on two pillars: the rugged, patient strength of highland tradition, and the warmth of a household where every person is known by name.

Twelve years later, the whiteboard still carries birthdays. Coaches still walk members to the door. And the training still works.

Our mission: At Highland & Home, we blend rugged strength with heartfelt hospitality — building bodies and belonging in equal measure.

Real Winter Park stories. Real change.

Every member here arrived carrying something — an injury, an old habit, a season of neglect. These are the people who stayed, and what happened when they did.

Featured Story
From Desk-Bound to Community Champion

Sarah arrived at Highland & Home in January 2023 with a confession: she had not broken a sweat intentionally in four years. A software project manager with two young daughters, her days were twelve hours of screens and stress. "I was disappearing," she says. "Not visibly — I just couldn't remember what I enjoyed."

She started with two Heritage Strength classes per week. Within six weeks she had added a third. Within six months she was leading the Saturday family block alongside her girls. She lost 22 lbs, added 40 lbs to her deadlift, and — in her words — found people who text her just to check in.

"Highland & Home didn't just change my body — it gave me a home away from home."

Reclaimed After Injury

A former collegiate athlete, Marcus tore his ACL during a weekend basketball game and spiralled into depression during recovery. Maren rebuilt his movement from the ground up — single-leg work, hip stability, patience. He returned to basketball at 44 and now coaches Tuesday morning Heritage Strength.

"They didn't just fix my knee — they fixed my spirit."

Nutrition & Body Confidence

Elena had tried every diet in circulation by age 26. She came to our registered dietitian for one consultation and stayed for two years of real food education. She lost 18 lbs sustainably, gained visible muscle, and stopped apologising for her appetite.

"For the first time, I'm not dieting — I'm nourishing myself."

Vitality at 55

James arrived bracing for bad news from his doctor. Instead he got Maren's longevity track — hip hinges, thoracic rotation, loaded carries. Within a year his resting heart rate dropped 14 bpm and he completed his first 5K at 56. He mentors new members on managing the second half with strength.

"I feel stronger and more alive at 55 than I did at 35."

Couples Fitness Journey

Priya and her husband Rohan started couples classes to carve out shared time. What they found was a shared language — how to encourage without pushing, how to sweat next to someone you love. Two years later they train together four mornings a week and volunteer at member events.

"We came for the workouts, we stayed for the community and each other."

From Couch to Community Leader

David was 245 lbs when he first called us — afraid to be seen in a gym, certain he had left it too late. The Foundations block gave him twelve weeks of private cohort training before he entered the main floor. He lost 45 lbs, gained a social life, and now volunteers at every community event we run.

"This community believed in me before I believed in myself."

Family Wellness & Generational Health

Lisa wanted to raise kids who loved movement rather than tolerated it. She started family classes on Saturday mornings with her two children, ages seven and nine. Now her daughter leads the family warm-up at home, and her son has started asking when they can come back.

"I'm not just changing my life — I'm changing my family's future."

Recovery & Resilience

Robert's cardiologist sent him here with one instruction: move gently and consistently. We built a zone-two aerobic base, added mobility two days a week, and had him meeting with our dietitian monthly. His next cardiology visit showed improved markers across the board. He now swims the Lake Howell trail loop on Sundays.

Strength & Sisterhood

Jessica moved to Winter Park for work and knew nobody. She came to a Wednesday noon class thinking she just needed a workout. She ended up texting three members from that class by Friday. Six months later she organised the first women's Highland strength meet-up. She has not felt alone in Winter Park since.

"I found my tribe and my strength in the same place."

Heritage Strength & Athletic Longevity

Michael plays recreational tennis and golf and arrived terrified both knees would end his game by 55. Daniel built a hip-hinge and rotational power programme around his sport schedule. Michael dropped two strokes from his handicap, stopped wincing when he sits down, and credits the programming with extending his athletic window by a decade.

"I'm playing better sports now than I did ten years ago."

Got Questions?

Forty answers for curious neighbours.

Everything you would want to know before you walk through the door — and a few things you would not have thought to ask.

Home Hearth ($89/mo): Personalised at-home programming refreshed monthly, up to four community classes per month, filmed movement demos from your assigned coach, a quarterly movement screen in the studio, and access to the member app for habit tracking.

Highland Ridge ($149/mo): Unlimited community group classes, full hybrid studio and at-home programming, a monthly one-to-one coaching session, the mobility and longevity track, a nutrition check-in every six weeks, and two guest passes per month.

Summit Clan ($249/mo): Everything in Highland Ridge, plus weekly private coaching, two restorative recovery sessions per month, a dietitian-led nutrition and lifestyle plan, the family or partner add-on, priority booking, and an annual performance and longevity review.

Yes, anytime. Upgrades take effect immediately and we prorate the difference for the remainder of your billing cycle. Downgrades apply at the start of your next billing month. There is no fee for changing tiers — we would rather you stay at the level that fits your life than feel stuck on one that does not.

All memberships are month-to-month with no long-term contract. We have found that people who feel free to leave tend to stay far longer than people locked into a contract, so we built the model around earned loyalty rather than legal obligation. You can cancel at any time with no cancellation fee — we just ask for seven days' notice before your next billing date.

Email or call us seven days before your next billing date and we will cancel with no fee. You retain access through the end of your paid period. If life shifts and you want to pause instead of cancel, we allow up to eight weeks of hold per calendar year — your spot in regular class times is held, and your coach stays in touch.

Yes. Adding a household partner to any Highland Ridge or Summit Clan membership costs 60% of the standard tier price rather than the full rate. Children under 18 join family-specific class blocks at no additional charge within a family membership. Contact us directly to set up a family account — it takes about five minutes.

Yes. Members can hold their membership for up to eight consecutive weeks per year — useful for travel, surgery recovery, a hectic work season, or a summer vacation that runs long. To pause, just let your coach or the front desk know at least three business days in advance. Your class spots are held, your programming notes are saved, and you pick back up exactly where you left off.

We offer a 15% discount on Home Hearth and Highland Ridge memberships for full-time college students with valid ID, and a 10% gratitude discount for members over 65. Both discounts apply to monthly and yearly billing. Ask at the front desk or mention it when you call to enrol.

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and ACH bank transfers. Memberships are billed automatically on your chosen monthly or yearly cycle. We do not accept cash for recurring memberships, but single class packs and add-on sessions can be purchased in the studio by card or cash.

In-studio sessions use our full equipment set — barbells, kettlebells, sleds, pull-up rigs, and specialty implements. Your coach is physically present, can correct form in real time, and you benefit from the energy of training alongside other members. At-home sessions use equipment you already own (or minimal equipment we can recommend for under $60) and are supported by filmed movement demos from your own coach and a weekly check-in message. The programming runs on the same progressive cycle — the exercises and load are adapted, not the intent.

Not at all. Our Foundations block (Tuesday and Thursday mornings, twelve weeks) is designed specifically for people with no gym background, returning from a long layoff, or managing health conditions. Roughly half of all our current long-term members started in Foundations and describe it as the best money they have ever spent on their health. No experience is genuinely required — only a willingness to show up.

Clean athletic shoes (flat-soled for strength training is ideal but not required), water bottle, and a small towel. We provide chalk, all equipment, and a post-class coffee. You do not need special gear, branded apparel, or a particular fitness level. Wear whatever you would wear on a long walk — the programming will meet you there.

Current members can book through the member app or by calling us at (407) 555-0184. Classes can be booked up to seven days in advance and cancelled up to two hours before the start time without using a class credit. Summit Clan members receive priority booking — their window opens 24 hours earlier than standard members.

Cancel up to two hours before class start and no credit is used. Cancellations within two hours are counted as attended for billing purposes. Life happens — we do not penalise for genuine emergencies, and one courtesy cancellation per month is applied automatically. If you are on a waitlist and a spot opens, you receive a text notification 24 hours before class.

Highland Ridge and Summit Clan members each receive two guest passes per month. Guests must register in advance (same two-hour booking window) and complete a brief intake form. If your guest loves it, the first session of a Foundations block is complimentary when they sign up within two weeks of their guest visit.

Several of our coaches hold NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist credentials and post-rehabilitation certifications. We do a full movement screen before any member starts programming. If you are currently under the care of a physical therapist, we coordinate directly — with your written permission — to make sure our work supports and does not conflict with your rehab protocol. Many of our most committed members arrived post-surgery or managing chronic conditions.

For most adults, three to four purposeful sessions per week produces consistent, sustainable results. We design all programming around a three-session week as the baseline so that recovery is built in, not bolted on. Members who train five or six days per week are almost always incorporating our mobility or recovery sessions on alternating days rather than adding more strength volume — and their results reflect the balance.

Community group classes are capped at twelve members. Every class has one lead coach and, for classes above eight, a second coach on the floor for movement cues and modifications. Our target is never more than six members per coach for any hands-on session. Foundations classes are capped at eight. Private and semi-private training are by appointment only and do not share floor time with community classes.

Yes. Private sessions ($95 each, or discounted in packs) can be booked by any member or non-member. Summit Clan members include a weekly private session in their membership. Private sessions are fifty minutes, fully individualised, and scheduled directly with your assigned coach. Semi-private training (two to three people) is available by request at a reduced per-person rate.

Highland Ridge members receive a nutrition check-in every six weeks — a 30-minute conversation with a coach or our dietitian to review habits, troubleshoot obstacles, and recalibrate. Summit Clan members receive a full dietitian-led nutrition and lifestyle plan, updated quarterly, with monthly check-ins and on-demand messaging between appointments. Home Hearth members can add nutrition coaching as an individual service at the posted add-on rate.

We do not use extreme restriction, elimination diets, or point-counting systems. Our registered dietitian builds sustainable eating patterns around real food, household routines, and the specific demands of your training programme. Most members describe the first session as the first time nutrition felt manageable rather than punishing. The goal is a way of eating you could maintain happily for the next thirty years — not for eight weeks before a holiday.

Summit Clan members receive personalised meal plan templates updated quarterly. Highland Ridge members can request a starter template at their six-week nutrition check-in. All members have access to our downloadable Highland Table guides — a recipe collection and grocery strategy built around the macro targets most appropriate for community training loads. No template is copy-pasted; every plan is calibrated to your stated preferences, cooking habits, and household size.

Yes, fully. Our dietitian works routinely with vegetarian and vegan members, gluten-free requirements, religious dietary laws (halal, kosher), low-FODMAP protocols, and members managing conditions like Type 2 diabetes, PCOS, or hypothyroidism. Please note any restrictions in your intake form before your first appointment so the dietitian can prepare a relevant starting point.

Highland Ridge: one 30-minute check-in every six weeks. Summit Clan: a full 60-minute plan review quarterly, plus monthly 20-minute progress calls and asynchronous messaging through the member app. Add-on Nutrition Consultations ($75 each) are available to any member or non-member at any frequency — many members book one per month while establishing new habits, then space them out once the habits hold.

Disclose all allergies in your intake form before your first nutrition appointment — this is required, not optional. Our dietitian will build every recommendation around confirmed safe ingredients and will never suggest a supplement or packaged product without first reviewing its ingredient label against your allergy profile. We take allergies seriously and have worked safely with members managing tree nut, shellfish, dairy, soy, and wheat allergies.

We keep supplement recommendations minimal and evidence-based. The only supplements we routinely discuss are protein powder (as a convenience tool, never a replacement), creatine monohydrate, vitamin D3, and magnesium — all with strong research bases and low risk profiles. We do not sell supplements, receive commissions, or recommend products not independently reviewed by our dietitian. If you are already taking supplements, bring the labels to your first nutrition session for a quick safety review.

We use a combination of habit-based check-ins (a short weekly self-assessment in the member app), biometric markers reviewed at each check-in (energy, sleep quality, body composition trends, performance metrics), and quarterly progress photographs taken by members themselves. We explicitly do not require daily calorie logging — it works for some members and creates anxiety in others. Your dietitian will recommend a tracking method appropriate to your personality and goals at your first session.

We run eight to twelve community events per year: seasonal strength challenges, a summer Highland games morning on the Lake Howell trail, monthly social breakfasts after Saturday classes, a Winter Solstice Recovery Ritual, an annual member celebration dinner, family field days, charity fitness drives for Winter Park-area causes, and occasional guest workshops with coaches from our wider network. All events are free or nominally priced for members; some are open to the public.

The most direct way is to come to class — names go on the whiteboard, coaches introduce new members by first name, and conversations start naturally. Beyond the studio, we have a members-only channel in the app, a private community group, and an opt-in member directory so you can find training partners nearby. Coaches actively facilitate introductions between members with similar goals or complementary schedules.

Member spotlights run monthly — one member shares their story in the app and on our social channels. Participation is entirely voluntary and always done with the member's full consent and editorial review. Seasonal challenges run twice per year (spring and autumn) and are opt-in, covering attendance, a movement goal, or a nutrition habit — never a weight-loss metric. Finishers receive a Highland & Home challenge badge and are recognised at the community breakfast following the final week.

Most of our community events are family-friendly and children are enthusiastically welcome. The summer Highland Games morning and family field days are designed explicitly for all ages. Some events — the adult social breakfasts and the evening member dinners — are for adult members only, but we always indicate family-friendly status clearly in the event description. Partners and household members who are not current members are always welcome at open events.

A few things we do deliberately: birthdays on the whiteboard, a five-minute social warm-up before class begins, coaches who remember your last conversation rather than just your last workout, small class caps so nobody is anonymous, and a post-class coffee station that keeps people lingering. We hire coaches partly on the basis of whether they are genuinely curious about the people in front of them — technical skill matters, but warmth is non-negotiable here.

Yes. The member app includes a video library (movement demos, mobility flows, recovery guides), your personalised programming calendar, a direct message channel with your assigned coach, the community discussion board, habit tracking tools, and access to every Highland Table nutrition guide. For at-home members especially, the app is the link between studio sessions — coaches post encouraging notes, movement tips, and upcoming event reminders directly in the app feed.

On the member portal login screen, select "Forgot password" and enter your membership email address. A secure reset link will arrive within two minutes (check your junk folder if it does not appear in your inbox). The link is valid for 30 minutes. If you continue to have trouble, call us at (407) 555-0184 during studio hours and we can verify your account by phone.

Yes. The member portal and the Highland & Home app are fully mobile-optimised and work on any smartphone or tablet browser. A dedicated iOS and Android app is available for download from the member welcome email — it offers push notifications for class reminders, coach messages, and event announcements that the browser version does not.

Log in to the member portal, navigate to Account Settings, and update any field directly. Changes to your billing email or payment method require identity verification before they save. For name or date-of-birth corrections that require ID matching, contact us directly at welcome@highlandandhome.com — we will update the record from our end within one business day.

All member data — including health history, movement screen notes, nutrition records, and payment information — is stored encrypted and never sold, shared, or used for marketing by third parties. Payment processing is handled by PCI-DSS compliant partners; we do not store card numbers on our servers. Health and movement data is accessible only to your assigned coaching team and our registered dietitian, and only with your written consent on file.

Email welcome@highlandandhome.com with a brief description and a screenshot if possible — we respond within one business day. For urgent issues (locked out before a class you have booked, billing error), call (407) 555-0184 during studio hours and we will resolve it while you wait. Common fixes: clear browser cache, try a different browser, or uninstall and reinstall the app.

Your membership renews automatically on the same calendar day each month (or year, for annual billing). You receive a billing reminder email three days before each renewal. If your billing date falls on a weekend or holiday, the charge processes on the next business day. Your first charge occurs on the date you enrol, and subsequent charges align to that day of the month going forward.

Monthly memberships are non-refundable once a billing cycle has begun, but you retain full access through the paid period. Annual memberships are refundable on a prorated basis within the first 30 days if the membership is not working for you — contact us directly and we will make it right. For class packs and add-on services, unused credits are fully refundable within 60 days of purchase. We handle refund requests individually and always aim to find a resolution you feel is fair.

If a payment fails, you will receive an automatic notification and a seven-day grace period to update your payment method before your access is paused. Your coach will also reach out personally — not to chase money, but because we want to make sure everything is okay. Accounts paused for non-payment are reinstated immediately when the payment method is updated; no re-enrollment fee applies.
